Golden Key International Honour Society
Honorary Members of 2004/2005

Honorary members are selected based on their committment to higher education, devotion in assisting student’s needs, outstanding contribution to the campus, community, undergraduate research, and more. Honorary members are present a lifetime membership certificicate.

Lieutenant Governor Loren Leman
Lieutenant Governor Loren Leman's family history in Alaska goes back more than 200 years to a marriage in Kodiak between a Russian shipwright and an Alutiiq woman from Afognak. Gold miners, Alaska Natives, fishermen and missionaries have figured prominently in his family's history. He is the first person of Alaska Native ancestry to be elected to statewide office in Alaska . In addition to serving in the Alaska Legislature for 14 years, Lieutenant Governor Leman is a consulting civil/environmental engineer and fisherman. He and his wife Carolyn have three children- Joseph, Rachel and Nicole. Loren Leman grew up in Ninilchik where he graduated from high school. He received his bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from Oregon State University and his masters in Civil/Environmental Engineering from Stanford University . He has also studied Arctic Engineering at the University of Alaska Anchorage .

Dr. Elaine P. Maimon
Elaine P. Maimon is Chancellor of the University of Alaska Anchorage . Her vision for UAA includes the following principles:  student success; increased strength in research, scholarship, and creative activity; the University as a public square; UAA as a destination for Alaska students, as well as for those from other states and countries; partnership between the Anchorage campus and the community campuses; cooperation among all University of Alaska campuses. Dr. Maimon initiated and then directed one of the first writing-across-the-curriculum programs in the nation.  She was a founding Executive Board member of the National Council of Writing Program Administrators (WPA). She has co-authored four books and has directed national institutes to improve the teaching of writing. She is married to Dr. Mort Maimon.  Their daughter, Gillian, is a first-grade teacher and Ph.D. candidate in Philadelphia .  Their son, Alan, is a journalist covering Eastern Kentucky for the Louisville Courier-Journal.

Dr. Gebe Ejigu
Dr. Gebe Ejigu, Vice Chancellor for Administrative Services, University of Alaska Anchorage assumed his position June 21, 2004 . In this capacity, he will serve as UAA's chief administrative and financial officer. He will provide leadership in such functional areas as budget and finance, facilities development and management, information technology, athletics, human resources, business and auxiliary services and campus police. The Vice Chancellor is married to Genet A. Ejigu, R.N. They have three daughters and two grand children.

Dr. Mike Haley
Dr. Haley has been teaching at UAA for 25 years, at every rank from part-time Instructor to Professor of English.  His fields of specialization are syntax, semiotics, and figurative language.  He received my B.A. and M.A. at the University of Alabama in 1969 and a Ph.D. at Florida State University in 1975.

Dr. Jill Crosby
Dr. Crosby is an associate professor and the coordinator for the Dance Program here at UAA, Jill earned an MBA from New York University and an Ed.M. and Ed.D. from Teachers College Columbia University . She has appeared as a performer in the Morningside Dance Festival in New York City and as a guest artist with the XSIGHT! Performance Group of Chicago . She has also choreographed new dance works with Brian Jeffery, artistic director of XSIGHT! and with Heather Cornell, artistic director of Manhattan Tap. Jill received a 1998 Fulbright research grant that took her to Ghana , West Africa where she also taught at the University of Ghana . In addition to her research in Ghana , Jill also conducts research in Cuba .  

Ms. Karrie Trautman
Ms. Karrie Trautman is a Senior Financial Aid Technician and Scholarship Coordinator for the Student Financial Aid Office at the University Center . She is also the current Alaska Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators President. She started work in Financial Aid as a student worker 9 ½ years ago. She received a BA Anthropology 2001. She is married to Brian they are the proud parents of identical twin boys.
