Welcome to the Spanish 1-on-1 homepage.  Spanish is one of the most spoken languages in the wide world.  The aim of this website is to help students comprehend Spanish and learn about the culture of the different Spanish speaking countries, mainly Puerto Rico. It is my hope that you enjoy this website. I value your suggestions and welcome your feedback.

Special thanks to Laura Brewer and Michael Case for  their knowledge, dedication and willingness to make this website a reality.

There are many advantages for learning Spanish:

  • There is an increasing recognition of the value of a business-related foreign language. Multilingualism facilitates exchanges and becomes an asset in the sale of products abroad.
  • If you could speak a foreign language, you can talk to foreigners. You can also make a foreign friend. Moreover, you would learn about foreign culture.
  • Learning a foreign language also helps us whenever we go and trip to a foreign country.
  • You might find new dreams and/or goals.
  • The acquisition of one or several foreign languages favors improved intellectual development.
  • Learning a language other than one's own allows us to better understand those who speak that language.
  • Multilingualism promotes relations between different linguistic communities.
  • Learning Spanish is a means of demonstrating that we want to become "cultural intermediaries" who want to eradicate social divisions that still too often separate members of different linguistic communities.

According to the 2002 U.S. Census, more than 7.5 million children between the ages of 5 and 17 (about 14%) speak a language other than English at home and the number of bilingual speakers is expected to increase in the coming years.
